How dogs actually cool down
Humans cool off by sweating across most of their skin. Dogs can't do that. They release heat mainly by panting, and in small part through sweat glands in their paw pads. That's a much smaller cooling system, which is why dogs overheat faster than people in the same conditions.
A healthy dog's normal body temperature runs 100.5°F to 102.5°F. Once it climbs past 103°F, it's worth paying attention. Above 106°F is a veterinary emergency.
